Advancing Rare Together

A night at the museum with Rare New England

April 4, 2026

Be part of an extraordinary evening where rare diseases take the spotlight, and your work brings the unseen to life!

Submission deadline: October 15, 2025

Rare New England (RNE) is a nonprofit organization serving the rare disease community, with the mission of bringing New England patients, families, and providers touched by rare and complex disorders together. RNE offers educational opportunities, creates awareness of available resources, and builds foundations for support to improve patient quality of life and support the professional needs of healthcare providers. Our initiatives include connecting patients with support groups, highlighting medical and community resources, and educating various stakeholders on issues affecting patients with rare and complex diseases.

Goal:

To help the public understand rare diseases and the people who are affected by them on a deeper, more tangible level and create greater awareness of what can be done to support this community now and in the future.

Call for Abstracts:

Do you have research or a project in the area of rare and complex diseases? Do you want your work to be highlighted to the public at an event at the Boston Museum of Science? This is a great opportunity for you!

Project Recommendations

We welcome creative and educational projects that aim to increase understanding of rare and complex diseases. Successful submissions will include the following elements:

  • Raise Awareness: Clearly highlight rare and complex diseases and the individuals impacted by them, while enhancing the general public’s awareness and understanding.

  • Accessible Presentation: Convey information in a manner that is easily digestible, thought-provoking, and potentially applicable by a broad audience.

  • Factual and Balanced: While projects may go beyond purely medical or scientific topics, all content must be accurate, unbiased, and presented logically.

  • Specific Focus: Projects must center on a defined topic or theme (e.g., the role of a genetic counselor in the rare disease diagnostic journey). General overviews of rare diseases will not be accepted.

  • Engaging and Interactive: Proposals that include participatory or interactive elements are strongly encouraged. These may involve hands-on demonstrations, creative displays, or artistic expressions.
